Quick componant question
Can I use a 105 triple FD with a ultigra RD and a SRAM cassette?
Or should I keep model families intact? |

Pay special attention to the bit about supplying enough info in your question. |
As long as you are using shimano brifters.
|
Ya know what......
Never mind |
Much more info is needed, saying 105 or Ultegra is pretty meaning less, as there are so many variations, saying 5600 or 6700 gives an idea of what you are dealing with.
SRAM cassettes will work fine with any Shimano setup, with Shimano, 5700, 6700 & 7900 all work together, but have less compatibility with older groupsets, like 5600, 6600 & 7800 |
It's a general question. All I have right now is a LeMond frame. I'm on the hunt for parts and was wanting to know what to lookout for.
All the answer I needed was like you'rs, "Yes but be careful." A Google search produced 234 million hits and no clear answer. Is there a compatability chart? |

Once you've found the parts you want to buy, post a question like: "Will this Ultegra long cage rear derailleur: http://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Ultegra-...-/190556269110 work on this SRAM cassette: http://cgi.ebay.com/SRAM-Shimano-PG-...-/190556065610 . I have a LeMond Zurich frame I am building, and I have 10-speed Shimano brifters." The answer to the above is "no", because the number of speeds on the cassette must match the number of "speeds" of the shift levers. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they both 9 speeds? Or am I missing something?
btw, thanks for the reply david, jim and Jeff. As a IT Professional for the last 10 years, it is my opinion that secretly shimano was taken over by Microsoft judging by their compatibility issues. |
Okay, after a night and morning of research and frustration and confusion, I've decided to stay with one family of parts.
Ford F-150!!!!!!!!! Nah, just kidding, I'm going with a basic Tiagra setup until I know more and decide then. My needs more than likely won't surpass a 105 group. |
Chances are good you'll be happy with Tiagra.

as long as your left shifter is a triple shifter and your right shifter is a 9 speed then youre golden... just make sure it's a 9 speed cassette
