Flat, then RD failure

Hello all,

I was riding in the rain yesterday... great little 20 mile ride. On the way home I was on a very rough road and got a rear flat. I took the wheel and fixed the flat and attempted to put the wheel back on... when it got stuck. I couldn't tell what the wheel was even stuck on, it was frustrating. I had to use a little force to free the wheel and finally got it to fall in place.

Immediately after this, the RD was working improperly. The biggest sprockets won't shift properly... only about the last 2 smallest ones... so I rode home in a hard gear.

When I say "not working" I mean it was skipping. Every 1-2 seconds in most of the gears it was skipping.

I held the bike up and spun the pedal with my hand and I can see the problem... in the image below the part in the red box moves in the direction of the arrow, and then falls back into place... only to repeat the process.

I have no money at all to fix this but I need to ride! Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. (Yes, it's dirty!)

Sounds like a stiff link in the chain - you possibly twisted the chain when you were forcing the wheel back on.

have you check and make sure the chain is riding on the top pulley (the top small gear in the cage ) of the derailer ? , sometime pull a wheel back onto a bike can misplace the chain on that pulley and act like what you are getting as you ride.

FE, Make sure the RD is shifted to the outermost gear, remove the wheel again to get a good view of the chain's path through the RD's cage. Reinstall the wheel with the chain on the outside gear and don't force anything, but you may need to move the RD body rearward for the axle to align properly in the dropouts.
