Shimano ST-M071 Der Cable Replacement Question
I have one of these in my stash, and coincidentally, a bike that needs the 7 speed rear shifter replaced. Problem is, I don't know how to remove and replace the derailleur cable in the shifter. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,

OK, these:
Is there a cable in the shifter now? Click the thumb button several times to get it into "high" gear, then push the cable into the shifter. It should pop out a hole in the housing opposite the shifter. Installation is the reverse: point the free end of the cable into the hole, and thread it through. Once it's comes out a bit, pull it until the cable end seats in the shifter.
My later model Rapidfire shifters have a little threaded cap that needs to be removed before you can get the cable out. I don't think that this is the case with your shifters.
I have a feeling that if the shifters have been sitting a while, they'll need a liberal dousing with spray lube inside to get them working again. Gummed-up Shimano shifters are well known in these parts.
