Crank problems...
I've been slowly replacing components on my Charge Duster hardtail; I bought the thing second hand and its been nothing but trouble. So far replaced: shifters, chain, cassette, bb, and now the chainset is clearly warped, and shifting is awful with slipping occurring frequently due to the chainset and loose 'rear derailleur arm thing' (bike shop confirmed this).
My question relates to the chainset; right now its got a Truvativ Trushift crank which they made to be only compatible with a Truvativ Powerspline BB. The bike shop I went into recommended a Shimano Deore chainset including a new sort-of external BB which I do not see going in but what do I know? Could I get some recommendations on a good value (decent) chainset which won't deform-when I ride hard on/offroad-without me having to change the BB (its 113mm by 68mm if thats important?), and for future reference is it then actually possible to change the BB to a better verson? Any point going second hand eBay?
Many thanks, Alex

Your bike shop's recommendation is sound. Really, there are a zillion choices, but the Deore with external bottom-bracket is a solid, safe choice. I actually just received one in the mail today to put on a friend's bike.

What's the matter with the Shimano external option (HT2), works will for most users, if you buy a new Shimano MTB Chainset you get one of these included anyway so a no brainer. For value for money at the moment, would look at the SLX chainset on Chainreaction.
Thinking that from the sound of bike, buying a new one would have been better value than upgrading a used one, you have already proved that it doesn't equal good value with your orginal purchase, as you are having to replace major (expensive) components.
