Best bar tape for keeping clean?

Hi there,

I was wondering what the general majority thought is the best bar tape is for keeping clean as im not one for changing it every 5 minutes to suit my outfit! I currently have white tape that came with my bike but is not very white anymore (3 months on)

Be nice if it is comfortable as well.

Thanks

Gary

Basic black. Goes with everything and never shows the dirt.

You can have any color you want as long as it's black.

If you are diligent about keeping your tape clean, you can keep your white bars looking new for a long time. Just wipe them down with simple green every few rides.

Yeah very good.

I wasnt really talking about color, was more thinking what tapes last best if I wash the bike weekly?

50% +1 is a tall order..

Benotto Vinyl , thin , slick. easy to wipe clean was about all it had going for it.

I've got Fizik silver metallic tape on my bike right now and it seems to be as clean as the day i put it on.

The best thing for your bar tape if you wash your bike weekly is to keep the water away from it. The water isn't doing the shifters, brake levers, cables or headset any good either.

The shiny, slippy Hunt Wilde/Schwinn vinyl tape from the 70's and 80's is nearly indestructible and dirt won't ever stick to it.

+1. I went into my LBS recently to buy some red tape to go with a red Specialized Allez Steel Double and he almost refused to sell it to me. He said no matter what I did it would get dirty and I wouldn't be happy with it.

I think the point is if you go with black, it really doesn't need to be clean at all. It just doesn't show dirt. Just wipe down from time to time. With any other color, you probably are going to notice soiling. White tape looks gorgeous, for awhile, and then starts to look dingy. Sure you can use Simple Green and such, but it will eventually start wearing down the surface and it just won't ever look the same again.

Just my opinion. I have a recent addition to the herd, a Centurion Ironman, that has white tape. Looks like leather but is vinly. It cleans up pretty nicely. Don't know if it is still commercially available or not. If I could find out what they used, I probably would buy it for another bike that I have that would look great in white.
