Connector for two lengths of housing - am I losing it?

OK. This may be the story of me losing my mind.

I thought I found on the web a few weeks ago a simple doohickey (that is akin to two cable housing ends/ferrules with the small holes butted up to one another) that allows you to join two pieces of cable housing. I remember there was even a photo of the little clear plastic ziplock bag with the sticker of one of the big parts manufacturers. I remember that there were ten in a bag.

I wish I had purchased then, when I was living in my fantasy world, because this item seems to have ceased to exist.

This is only an issue because I want to re-use the caramel brown housing that came on my schwinn le tour, and I have not seen a roll of this color anywhere ever (though VO sells it now, but only in kits). The bike I'm using it on has beaucoup drum brakes and such, and long runs of housing will just make my life easier. Plus I'm into things being "totally enclosed."

Have I lost my mind, or is this thing actually out there in the world for purchase?

I think I would replace the housings. Worn or corroded housing has a detrimental effect on shifting performance. But this is more noticeable with indexed shifting.

For braking lines is not a problem, for FD shouldnt be a problem but for the rd it could. I have used those things in my sunday kids ride and do work but as AL1943 says, i wouldnt rusty housing in there. In my case i use just old stuff never used tho and it worked just fine.

I still have a couple of these double end connectors in my parts box and a few years ago one of them bailed me out when I cut a section of brake housing just a little too short and needed an extension. Measure twice, cut once. I didn't

Just about any bike shop in the country can order from QBP, so these should be easy to get.

I think that with using the connectors to fit some pieces of housing together it is cheaper to get new housing since most shifters don't have too much housing. Now if you want to connect 2 pieces of new housing then use a inline barrel adjuster and you have just added some more adjustment to shifter.

Not if you already have the connectors.

But as I read the OP's first statement, I didn't think that he had them but wanted to get some to piece together some housing.
