Inproved bikes

I was just wondering what everybody thought about modified bicycles or my favorite chopper bikes. I have added some pictures of bikes that I have made.

I like the kickstand on the trike, and the people in the background on the TALL bike.

scob89, they look great.

How do you get to the end. Is it trial & error or is there a theme/intention behind their design.

Same as Kleinrider and the people in the background, I'm smiling too . . . it's more like heyyy . . . how can you do that?!
:-)

Regards

I have a chopper myself. I've posted it a time or two already, but here it is again. It's a lot of fun to ride.

I don't have any pics of the front end right now but when I do I will post them. It only took me about a half hour to make the front end. All you hve to do is cut the bottom half of the shopping cart off and weld the front fork to the basket part, you can leave the bottom of the cart on but it rolls much more easily with the other two front forks welded to the sides of the shopping cart. I have had over two hundred pounds in the basket and it held the load for five miles. I have attached some othe pics of the bike.

Looks sweet! Any construction details you'd like to share? What did it start as? Was there any work (extending tubes or changing angles) other than lengthing the forks?

The bike started as a POS little kid's Huffy from a thrift store. It was $5, pretty complete, and I wasn't even sure if the project was going to work, so I didn't invest much. We (a buddy and me) did more than just make the fork longer. We also kicked the head angle out a bit. To do that we cut a small section out of the down tube (maybe 3 inches) and cute half way thru the bottom part of the top tube (right where it connects to the head tube). We then pulled the head tube up to slacken the head angle. On the down tube we sleeved a piece of scrap metal that was maybe 7-8 inches long (a few inches to sleeve and a few inches to lengthen the downtube) over it, welded around the seam and then welded it to the head tube. The top tube then had a wedge shape notch, so we cut a piece of metal to fit and welded it in. The fork was easy. We just cut it in half, sleeved it in long pieces of scrap metal and welded the seam. It wasn't too much work (an afternoon's worth) and it's held up for 4+ years now. I still ride it like it's about to break tho. I think the Huffy fork crown welds are going to fail me, but I have faith in the other welds. Once it worked and everything I bought new wheels for it (just cheap bmx) and replaced the seat and cranks, and added the chain guard from an old Murray cruiser I found on the freeway. I get a lot of looks on it around the University of Oregon campus.
