Those darn creaks. Easy fix (this time)

I share so that others can learn from it. I had one of those dreaded creaks. It creaked in unison with my cadence. First thoughts - bottom bracket. Removed bb and regreased threads - re-assembled. Creak still there. Disassemble and grease pedals - same creak. Creak would be most noticeable on hard pulls, sprints and climbs.

Solution (in this case). The quick release wasn't tight enough allowing the wheel to move slightly in the drops. I just gave the QR a half turn tighter and the creak went away.

First thing I check next time

i had a recurring crack that 'bout drove me crazy. a passing rider heard it and said
the bottom bracket thingy was loose. i had tightened it several times, but enough time
lapsed between episodes that i would forget.

THIS time i used red loc-tite (other brands probably work as well) on both screw threads.

6 months and not a peep.

cars get squeaks, rattles and what not, too. they WILL drive you nuts- until something
falls off and the noise stops.

Sometimes, it can be the saddle! There are so many possibilities for causing these annoying noises.

Just finished building up an oldschool MTB with virtually all new components. It was silent as was mechanically possible. I was elated. Slapped on a vintage double rail Brooks B72 last week with the old school seatpost clamp, and the darn thing creaks almost constantly. Oh well. It's funny enough not to annoy me... much.
