Info on old Shimano Cassette

I came across this unique Shimano cassette where the smallest cog is also the lockring and the threads are on the outside of the freehub.
What are these called? I guess it was one of those short-lived Shimano inventions?

http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#uniglide

It's Shimano Uniglide, which preceded Hyperglide, the current standard.

You can prolly remove the cassette body from the hub and replace it with a HG one in order to fit far superior shifting HG cogs.
