Can I mix a left ultregra and a right tiagra shifters?

Left shifter not cooperative. Right is fine. Ebay find of an ultegra left is waaay cheaper than new Tiagra. Can I mix the two?

It shouldn't matter as long.as the shifter matches the FD and crankset.

What's wrong with your shifter? Is it actually broken?
