Shimano hub and noise question

I bought an old bike from a friend and the other day I decide to lube the hubs (it's my first time ever) on the Shimano R-550 wheels. Afterward, the noise in the rear hub just disappear - nothing, not even a single click. I took the bike on a centuryride and it ran just fine. My question: Is Shimano hub supposed to be completely silence or did I do something wrong with it? Thanks.

I think your hubs are fine. One of the the reasons I prefer shimano hubs is b/cos of their silence relatively.

Sounds fine. I have the tool to take apart the freehub and I use it to replace the pawl spring with a heavier one. This allows me to pump grease into the freehub when I overhaul the hub. When the grease thins the hub is slightly noiser, but not like a Campy or Hugi.

Moast Shimano freehubs are almost completely silent so yours are normal. If you want noise, buy Campy. If you REALLY want noise buy Chris King or DT hubs.
