Broken wheel?!
I have a set of 36 spoke Ambrosio Excellence wheels, which came on my Vittorio
bike originally. They have about 5K miles on them.
While descending a mountain a few days ago, my rear brakes experienced a sudden
jolt, accompanied by not-so-nice squealing noises. For the rest of the trip, if
I applied them at all hard, the noise - in varying degrees - reappeared.
I just took the tire and tube off, and discovered what appears to be a
separation - at the weld - on the rim. On the other side of that wheel, and on
both sides of the other wheel, I can just barely see the weld appearing if I
look hard. Unfortunately, the separated bit seems to be offset a little from the
inside to the outside of the rim as you move from one side of the weld to the
other along the circumference.
I am assuming that the rim is cooked. And I am not extremely comfortable with
either wheel after seeing that.
Any ideas? Comments?
Thanks...Gary

Wheel is toast. I've had good luck with Cane Creek Arrowhead wheels and they won't break the bank.

I figured as much re the one with the offset.
Is the coming into view of the weld through the braking surface a sign that that (those, actually - my wife has the same wheels) wheel(s) will also need renewal soonish?
Thanks...Gary
