Bent Brake Caliper (brand new)

Bent Brake Caliper (brand new)
Last week my girlfriend asked me to replace her entire brake system on her SS, and after buying all the parts and installing everything, I realized the slotted arms holding the pads on the caliper are bent so much that the wheel barely fits. I'm obviously returning the caliper, I was just curious, does this happen a lot? How could this brake have been bent if it's brand new?

All manufactures will have a QA % level for failures, yours will be in this perecentage.
Once had a set of bar-ends which were ovalized out of the box, so couldn't be fitted onto a handlebar, but out of the hundreds of parts I have bought over the last 20 years, thats the only one to have failed on reciept, not use, so not too common.

If you got them from an LBS, return them for an exchange. If you got them from a mail order dealer, do the same. If you got them on E-bay, good luck.

I see that all to often on tektro's that come stock on lower end road bicycle shop quality bikes and alot of the bikes from walmart/target that don't have vbrakes when they come in for tune ups. take a rag cover the bent arm grab a large adj wrench and just bend it back, yes it's safe to do your not going to crack anything or wreck anything.
