Submerged my BB again.

So for the 3rd time in 3 months, I submerged my BB all the way to almost the hub in dirty greasy NYC street water.
Is this safe?

It will likely kill any varmits you have living in your BB shell.

I'm always amazed at the amount of water that drains out of my rainy-day MTB. It's still chuggin along though.

Run for the hills, it's probably gonna blow!

You should be fine. I've got a BB that's a permanent fixture in Davy Jones' Locker, it came with the frame, has untold thousands of miles on it and it's still spinning smooth and quiet.

Does your BB shell have a drainage hole?

I don't think it's got a drainage hole. It's got this screw that holds the guide for the cables at the bottom but that's about it.

I know many well respected names who would tell you that if your BB shell doesn't have a drainage hole you should drill one yourself.

just take out the cable guide screw. let your bike drain overnight...and remember to put the screw back in before riding the next day. if your BB sounds crunchy, get a new one. to answer your original question, its probably not good to submerge your BB. just so you know.
