    attaching a rear rack

i have a old blackburn rack. I tried to put it on my old GT MTB but the 2 strap metal pieces that come off the top are way way too high to mount to the frame at the normal position and keep the rack flat. The rack itself doesnt have up and down adjustment.

DO they make bracket or does anyone have any idea how to fashion an adapter?

Its going to be my winter bike. I just threw some PB fenders on it and now the rack. I coated the insides of the fenders with cooking spray so the snow wouldnt stick

Can you bend the metal straps so they reach?

Just replace the old short straps you have with new longer straps and bend them down, the straps don't need to be horizontal.

Along with the longer straps you could use Jandds' monostay adapter and not have to bend the straps down (much). http://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FMONO
Or a Bontrager or similar eyeleted seatpost clamp: http://bontrager.com/model/08427
would make a neat and sturdy installatio9n
