Dura Ace 8-speed STI with Campy 8-speed wheelset? Any way to do it?
Hello all,
Searches resulted in lots of info on Campy Ergos with Shimano wheelsets but not the other way round.
I have: Dura Ace 7400 Sti shifters
Campagnolo 8-speed wheelset
Various Shimano 105 rear mechs (No 7400 Dura Ace rear mech)
Can anyone suggest how to marry the shifters with the wheelset for successful indexing?
Jtek Shiftmate?
Sheldon/Hubbard cable routing on the Shimano rear mech?
Thanks in advance
Simon

I tried google and came up with - we need more detailed information on the weelset. What Campy hubset and from what year? Campy has made Shimano compatible freehub bodies over the years.

i think wheels mfg makes spacer sets that will re-space a carmpagnolo 8spd cassette so that it is compatible with shimano 8spd. ive got a set that goes the other way, shim to campy
your current issue looks to be the lack of a DA rear derailleur. i strictly ride campagnolo but my understanding is that this generation of DA uses its own cable pull ratio that would not be compatible with 105.

Well, I can use the Sheldon Brown alternate cable routing on the standard 105 RD so its effective pull is like a standard Shimano 8-speed.
I was wondering if the second alternate cable routing, the Hubbard way, would result in something that would work.
But overall I think the most sane way of doing this is to swap the freehub body on the wheelset from Campy to Shimano, the wheels are Campy Shamal.
I might try busting open some old 9 speed shimano cassettes for the spacers, gring ´em down and see if they will get the right spacing.

I´ve looked into this a bit more.
One way of doing it is Campy 8 speed sprockets with Campy 10 speed spacers, and routing the Shimano 105 rear mech conventionally. This gives me a cable pull equivalent to 9 speed Shimano - spacing 4.34mm - and the combined sprocket and spacer of the Campy 8 and 10 speed is 4.32mm. Good enough.
