What do I call this part? Differential for 3-wheel bike.

I am looking at a 3-wheel (2 in rear) bike for a neighbor, and it needs a new part. It has a 22t cog on it and freewheels and both wheel axles go in the sides. If it were a car I would call it the differential, but searches for that don't turn anything up. Also, what measurements should I take to ensure the replacement fits?

What brand of trike is it? If you can't figure it out, post a couple pictures.

The only "real" differentials on adult-type trikes that I'm familiar with came on the Schwinn Town & Country trikes of the late '70's/early '80's. This isn't what you're describing- there was a separate 3-speed "hub" transmission, driving the differential through a second chain. It's hard to see, but this trike has one: https://njbicycle.s5.com/images/78tc.jpg

Sun adult trikes have spare parts available online here: https://www.bikepartsusa.com/cgi-bin/...le-trike_parts . Look around here to see what they look like new: https://www.sunbicycles.com/products.php?cl1=ADULT+TRIKE

An appropriately sized ball diff like they use on RC cars would prolly be able to handle the torque, and would be relatively easy to fabricate.

Most just drive 1 wheel . , if your friend is not going to corner fast
and lift the drive wheel in a corner it wont matter.

what kind of dosh are they willing to put into this?

there are some very nice German made Delta recumbent
Trikes with a differential.
recumbent and tandem magazine rtrmag.com reviews one.
Hase Kettwiesel tour .. in fall 2011 issue.

Yes, most are only one wheel drive.
Can you post a picture of the part?
How many speeds does the bike have?
