"Everybody needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer."
I'll second that....
I posted per the 110 kgf.. as I suspect the manufacturer would take a powder when a non professional builder is sending the complaint... with tensions well over their 'recommended' tension.
Find me a place on the net where the rim makers STATE these tension specs...........

By the time he's finished this one, he'll be a pro, open a business, create a spreadsheet, and post Youtube videos!

I completed the three good wheels with one attempt each, then the bad rim took four attempts, so I guess you could say I've done seven builds so far! I learned TONS in the process though. I definitely feel like I'm proficient at the basics now.
I've actually enjoyed the process although I don't see how anyone could make much money doing this. Even the in-house LBS wheelbuilding guru said he normally spends 2-4 hours on each wheel (seems very high for an "expert"). At what, $30-$40 per wheel that probably averages around $15 per hour. Getting it down to an hour could make it worthwhile though.
Go ahead and start sending me your build requests!

By the way, I put in a plug to the mods for getting a dedicated "Wheelbuilding" forum under "Bicycle Mechanics". If you have an opinion on this and want to influence their decision feel free to share it here --> Wheelbuilding sub-forum under Bicycle Mechanics .

Meh, it's just one huge thread with over 2,500 posts. Tons of good info in there I'm sure but good luck finding an answer to any specific question you have.

Anyone who routinely spends that much time on a build is no expert. I would consider 30 minutes for a front and 40 for a rear to be enough time in most cases, still under an hour for a high end wheel. I did wheelbuilding only as a part of being a mechanic but could lace most wheels to the point of all nipples with threads hidden in 10 minutes or so. My record for lacing a front, small flange wheel was six minutes.

Final update...
I received the replacement rim yesterday. Laced it up, tensioned & trued. Nearly perfect. Wheel was complete with very even tension and true within .006" in about two hours. MUCH better than that last rim!
Thanks for all the help!
CASE CLOSED! :-)
