Rear Derailleur Specs

I need a 8/9 speed RD wiith a pulley to pulley length of 75mm and cannot find these specs on the Shimano site. Is these any place to find this info?

Does anyone know of a model off-hand with this dimension? It is for a trike and it needs to be long enough to suck up chain wrap but too long as to hit the ground when in the lower gears. might have to go th the lbs and start measuring.

Hmmm, yeah, not even quoted in techdocs.

I have a 7/8 speed Shimano RD MC16 that's less than 75mm on my bike with a road triple. It's from a 1999 A-group (Altus, Alivio, Acera).

All the derailers on my MTBs are longer. Suntour XC Pro mid cage @ 82mm is closest.

I have a friend with a trike and 20" wheels. A shop in Mississippi sold him a shimano Deore XT long cage and except for the fact that it doesn't have a cable adjustment screw it works, but it needs an inline adjuster. The pulley bolts measure 100mm center to center.
I would go with the Deore RD-M531.

75mm is typical of what makers call a mid-cage RD. For some reason they prefer to call cages by terms like short mid or long rather than publish the pulley distance.

If Shimano doesn't refer to one as mid cage, look for one with a chain take up capacity of about 30-32t. As for the number of speeds, that's no issue, the RD will index according to the levers, so it's the same whether for 7s, 8s or 9s.

Some actual measurements:

Shimano road triples as follows, 105 8-speed, 105 9-speed, Ultegra 9-speed and Sora 7-speed, were all 73 mm center to center of the pulley bolts.
Shimano STX MTB rear derailleur measured 83 mm c-c.
Campy 10-speed Chorus triple long cage rd measured 86 mm c-c.

OK,

105 8-speed is RD-1056
105 9-speed is RD-5501
Ultegra 9-speed is RD-6500
Sora is RD-3300
STX is RD-MC34
Campy Chorus does not have a part number on it but it is a 2006 model and the last of the triple derailleurs before Campy stopped supplying triples in their major name groups.

Does that help?

if you really wanted to be helpful, you'd track down the lowest price, add a link to the source, and to ice the cake, add your credit card info so he can make the purchase.

If I REALLY wanted to help, I'd buy one and ship it to him at no cost. Not going to happen!
