Road FD with XT 48/36/26 crankset

Hi...I'm constructing my new touring bike...I've posted some question for my rear setting...now I've some other questions on my front settings...

- I will mount Shimano 105 STI levers...
- I would like to mount the 48/36/26 XT crankset...

The capacity of the front derailleur to work with this crankset must be (48-36)+(36-26) = 22T, right?

So...
1) the 105 FD-5703 has a 20T capacity -> is it good to work with the 48/36/26 XT crankset?
2) the Ultegra FD-6703 has a 22T capacity and is compatible with 105 5703 STI levers -> is it good to work with the 48/36/26 XT crankset?

Do you have othe solutions?!

thank you in advance...

You can use either fd. I've installed 26T granny rings on several road cranks with 52 or 53T big rings so those front derailleurs have to handle up to 27T and both 105 10-speed triple and Ultegra 9-speed triple front derailleurs work just fine.

Bar end shifters , the left friction one will work better with mix-and-match parts.

... than the 3 big kathunk shifting of STI brifters.

a double FD might work better compared to a triple specifically designed for 53/39/30.

So you think they will work with a 48/36/26 XT crankset?!
Or you suggest to buy the 50/39/30 triple 105 crank and substitute the smaller ring with one 26T?

@fietsbob: I really don't like bar end... the shifters will surely be 105 5703 STI levers

Using a road FD with a mountain crankset may be problematic. You may have to try a few different front derailleurs to find one that has enough range to avoid rubbing the chain in your top few gears (even with the high limit screw totally removed). You don't say whether your rear spacing is 130mm or 135mm, which has an impact here.

A better idea if you need STI shifting.
