Seat post size 1990 Trek 8900

Hey, any chance someone would know the correct seat post size for a 1990 Trek 8900?
This was the model with CF main tubes, aluminum stays and steel Tange fork.
I've measured it with a caliper, but am hoping for some confirmation before proceeding.

Not clear on what "it" was that you measured, but if you have the seatpost the size is usually etched or stamped below the "min insertion" line. It may be faint or difficult to see. Otherwise you will need to measure accurately as they are made in 0.2mm increments.

Sorry, "it" meant the seat tube opening. There was no seat post included with the frame when I got it. I'm getting slightly less than 27.0 as a measurement for the interior diameter of the seat tube.

Probably best to go to the bike shop and have them use their gauge-

Trek used to use the "standard" 27.2 size in a lot of their steel frames, and in my aluminum '89 1500. I had a lugged carbon Specialized that also used a 27.2 post so I would try borrowing one first. If it doesn't fit, take the bike to the LBS and have them measure. It's very important to get the correct size especially in a carbon frame.

My experience too. I had an '83 400 lugged steel, an '85 560 lugged steel, a 92 1420 bonded aluminum and a '93 7000 bonded aluminum and they all used 27.2 mm seatposts.

Yes, every Trek I've seen is 27.2 including a 1996 2100.

Another owner of a 1990 8900 on a different forum says 27.2.
A technician at Trek says the 1991 8900 is 27.2.
Thanks to all for the help.
