Veloce 9 speed shifters -- Pre 2001 or After?

Hi,
Complete Newbie. Have a question for Campy experts. Tried to research Ergo shifters but still unsure. Just picked up a set of Veloce 9 speed shifters. I hope to get a corresponding rear derailleur. Are these shifters Pre 2001 or can I get new 10 speed derailleurs to match?
Thanks in advance.

I’d bet if you posted this to the C&V Forum you’d get some responses. They’re Campy nuts over there.

i am pretty sure they are late.

if i recall, only the late 9 speed say "9 speed" on them. early 9 levers just had the rounded hood and 8spd were pointed.

the answer is in the 2001 spare parts catalog if you want to verify.

I was Campy's east coast service tech in that era. If memory serves they didn't start writing 9 speed until they needed to differentiate between 9s ans 10s, so that makes them post 2001. I know for a fact that in 2001 Record and Chorus "carb BB system was replaced with 9 speed or 10 speed on the right lever. But i can't remember what Veloces were screened before 2001, or if they were at all, so that makes me not 100% certain, just 99.9%.

i was thinking some of the early lower level 9spd levers had blank brake blades and the group name was screened on the body where these say 9 speed. i am also 99.9% sure these will be late baised of the same logic. as i said, the last few pages of the ergo section in the 2001 parts manual should clarify all of this.

if they are not late 9, you can easily make them late levers by swapping out the indexing gear. i would advice this over using an early rear derailleur. either way you are going to be best off buying a late 9/10spd rear mech so i would gamble and go that route.
