Conversion from DT to bar end shifters

I'm upgrading my Fuji touring series IV and anticipate converting from DT shifters to bar end, while replacing the 6 speed freewheel with a 7 speed freewheel. I will probably stick with friction shifters unless converting to indexed can be easily accomplished. It appear from looking at photos of similar upgrades that the DT shifter bosses become cable stops. How is that accomplished?

tmcd: Cable stops are mounted onto the bosses in place of the shifters. A search on "downtube cable stop" will yield numerous places to buy them or they may be available cheaply or free at a LBS as leftovers. You will, of course, need new cable and housings. Don't skimp on these, even for a friction system where they are less critical than indexed shifters. I will leave it to others to discuss converting to indexed; I wouldn't bother, myself. It tends to complicate an otherwise simple system. You will see many postings on this forum regarding indexed shifting problems, very few (none?) about friction.

Thanks! I'll search for the cable stops. I assume they're made to fit on the old shifter boss. I'm open to the possibility of indexed, but I don't have a complaint with my friction shifters. I mainly just wanted to get the shifters up where they can be reachdd a bit more easily.
