wobbly cassette/freehub= bent hub?

wobbly cassette/freehub= bent hub?
anybody see this and know how to fix it? the cassette will wobble while coasting. I took apart a shimano wh-r550 hub that kept getting loose on me, after it finally got really gritty. the race and cone on the drive side are worn and pitted with the cone being noticeably uneven. Any way I would hate to replace both with the freewheel being a $40 dollar part only to have it happen again.
The only thing I can think of is if i have a bent hub. I rolled the axle around and it doesn't look bent and I think it would be highly unlikely relative to the hub.

Many cassettes and freewheels "oscillate" a litlle when coasting. There was a recent thread on it, and the consensus was small oscillations are an artifact of machining tolerances. In other words, all the parts that comprise a freehub (shell, races...) do not lie on the same theoretical axis. One might be .001" off, another part .002" off the axis... Since the parts are not concentric, they will appear to wobble.
Some designs are less prone to oscillation, but I think every bike I've owned had a little wobble.

It might be the bolt that fixes the cassette to the hub is loose most shimano's can be tightened with a 10mm hex wrench.

I fished an XT hub out of a recycle bin and built it up there was a noticeable wobble to it and the cone had worn uneven. After taking it apart it was obvious the splines that transfer the torque from the freehub were off center. It sounds like you have a defective one see if it is under warranty. It might be the bolt that fixes the cassette to the hub is loose most shimano's can be tightened with a 10mm hex wrench.

as someone so rightly noted on a recent post (on a related thread), when engaged, the freehub bearings serve as spacers only and float is invited. when freewheeling there is no load on the bearings so float is not a concern. so now it's on my list of things i have to remember to forget about. 
OTOH, worn axle bearing cones and cups are a different matter altogether.
and one of the two cups on a rear hub is integrated with the freehub. soooooo... if it's worn and/or pitted and causing your problem, i suppose you may need a new freehub.
