Well, I learned a thing or two, despite whatever faux pas have been committed.

Carbon fiber melting in the sun is improbable if not unpossible?
As far as car exhaust getting hot enough to melt it, I have no problem at all believing that.
I would be curious to know what the temperature was at the wheel at highway speeds?
BTW ****

Neither the fiber nor the resin will melt. Thermoset resins will not melt once fully cured. At high enough temperature they will char, but not melt. Some softening may occur at elevated temperature, but not due to melting.

Lots of opinions here. Have you checked to see what your owners manual says or contacted the manufacturer?

Since I, too, am in So Cal and have noticed that one of the first places I started seeing oodles of carbon fiber was in import car hoods, I'm gonna go with......not a chance!!
I'd assume that the laying of carbon fiber has become pretty well learned globally at this point and I still see some pretty old carbon fiber hoods laid atop cars over the last decade or so.
At 200+ engine temperatures + So Cal heat + beating sun, rain, wind, snow (yes, those same cars climb Baldy, Big Bear, Arrowhead every winter too) I would say that this freezing/melting worry crap is just that.....probably a load of crap.

There seems to be plenty of literature on the problem of aging of carbon fiber reinforced composites using epoxy as the matrix, with UV irradiation, heat, and moisture being the main concerns resulting in degradation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and brittleness. It appears that polyester matrix has more susceptibility than epoxy, in fact epoxy is relatively stable, though heat does case oxidation of the epoxy as mentioned previously.
That being said I have my doubts that the temperature profiles experienced by bicycle frames/forks result in measurable aging effects in the expected life of a carbon frame. I might not be so quick to discount it in carbon fiber rims with standard rim brakes though.
