interesting space between crown race and cartridge bearings/lower head tube race

hey fellas, two issues id like to ask. first off, i think posting pictures would be unnecessary because i feel like this can be simple to explain.

so there is about an approx 1 millimeter space between my crown race and the cartidge bearing/lower head tube race. small debris can get in and thats probably a bad thing.
i took it apart and saw that there is a small scrape on the crown race below the cartridge bearings as if there was a tiny pebble rolling around in there every time i turned.
is my crown race not on right or damaged? i feel as though the lip on the crown race could have bent a little, creating the small space. would it be a good idea to take the crown race off and then just put it back on?

and second issue is there is also a small space facing forward about 0.5-1.0mm between the compression ring and dust cap on the top of my headset. is this normal or is something not sitting right?

maybe the two issues are related?

sorry i feel like the whole population of bike forums comes here to ask you guys dumb questions.

perhaps my issues are very minor, but they are really eating away at the back of my head. thanks in advance.

Your first assumption is wrong- post pictures so we can see what is going on.

For a cartridge bearing headset, the "crown race" isn't really a race, it's just a platform the lower cartridge sits and aligns on. The races are part of the cartridge. However, it must be smooth and installed flat and flush on the fork crown to support the bearing properly and if yours is distorted or damaged, it should be repaired or replaced.
