Shimano 105 (5500) freehub & 8-speed cassette compatibility?

How about it?

On advice from helpful participants of this forum, I just won an eBay auction for a pair of Mavic Open Sport 32H, Shimano 105 (5500) (Winning bid: $26, yay! (but FedEx ground shipping $75?!?!).

My current bike has an 8-speed cassette (and chain and shifter...; I'm not interested in "upgrading" to an easier-to-break 9- or 10-speed), and even though I've heard that basically anything shimano fits with anything shimano, I'm a little worried from the shimano tech docs (SI, EV) whether my 8-cassette will fit on this 105-5500 freehub, since they say "Gears: 9" and "Use with CS-HG70-9". Isn't it really just the 130mm spacing that counts in the end?

Any reassurance would be appreciated, or at least let me know whether I should be able to recoup my $101 on CL...

(Also, I'm looking forward to having serviceable hubs instead of sealed-cartridge; drop me some linkage if you have a favorite online tutorial, or let me know any tips&tricks that you have found helpful...)

Any Shimano freehub body specified as "9-speed" is also 8 and 10-speed compatible. You are good to go.
