Suntour Front Derailleur w/ Shimano 600 8 speed
Thanks to this forum I rode for the 1st time ever with working STI Brifters on my old road bike. The frame had no braze on for the front derailleur so I tried the old Suntour that I used for years before the bike sat in a shed for 15 years.
It seems to work pretty well after adjusting it for a while on the service stand. Will the 'right' front derailleur work any better. I only did a short few miles test on it but I think I will leave it alone for now. Anybody else tried a Suntour with a Shimano system?
Pix of the bike taken yesterday on my blog Starting to look good with the Spinergy wheels on it. It gets some looks for sure.

If it works you might as well leave it.
So long as the pull ratio is the same (and I think they all were back then) the other dimensions are pretty close. Cage width should be the same. If the chainrings are the same size, curve will be okay too.

I've done similar combos without difficulty. Road double front derailer designs don't vary much.
You need to add a ] after your blog address, then some text (like My Blog, for instance)
Then it could look something like this:

Suntour front is working great with Ultegra 600 parts. The index shifting is working great. Will look for a 600 clamp on for steel tube but won't be in a big hurry. After a few days of riding the index shifting 8 speed 600 I don't think I will be going back to friction down tube shifters.

STI/Ergo brifters sure spoil you fast compaired to any other shifting system. I've used them all (downtube, barend, etc.) and nothing is as convenient as brifters. Their only downside is cost and some sacrifice in durability.
