FD-M770 - Max Teeth 44 or 48

Can anyone confirm the max teeth for the Deore XT FD-M770? I get two answers in searching. Some say 44 and some say 48. Others say the 770 is 44 and the 772 is 48.

Shimano's own tech document states the FD-M770 is designed for a 44T large chainring and the FD-M771 is for a 48T. Look here:

Its says 44T/48T. You're looking at the Chainwheel chart. I'm assuming a 44 or 48 is good based on the FD chart, but on several order pages for it they only say max of 44 and I need a 48, some say 44/48 none say 48. It's why I'm looking for clarification. This years XT has a max of 42, so I want to pick on up as a spare before they are gone if it will do 48. If not I need to change a chainring.

It says 44 or 48 for two different models of the front derailleur.
