Brake pad sizes

Hi everybody.

Just looking for some advice, have been cycling for years but amazingly have never had to change brake pads before!!

I want to get some better pads than the ones on my bike (a dawes horizon plus, tektro oryx cantilever brakes, 700 wheels)

Just wondering what the difference between pad sizes is (eg 55, 60, 70 or 72mm)

Can you use any size? And would people recommend standard pads or cartridge pads with removable shoes?

Any tips on brand?

Thanks

Cartridge pads cost more initially, but next replacement the inserts cost less..

V brake pads are longer, the bolt and the length of the pad.

though the way they attach to your brake is similar. to newer road types.

the length inside a narrow fork, may not open as far on road bikes
When QR opened,
I just let the air out of the tire in those situations.

Thanks, I figured that was probably the case. Any advice regarding sizes?

You can't beat Kool-Stop for a noticeable brake pad "upgrade":

Any advice regarding sizes?

I think they're 55mm, but the choice seems to be limited if I stick to 55, so if other sizes will work I wouldn't mind changing

go down to the bike shop and you can compare live in the flesh.
