Bikes: 2005 Trek 1500 frame with components from 2001 Cannondale R600?

I just installed a new seatpost in my 1993 Trek 1200 aluminum frame. When I tightened the bolt, the part of the frame that the bolt screws into cracked and would probably fall off if I were to loosen it and tighten it again. My dad suggested doing something like what is pictured here, but that did not sound like a good idea. For now, the seatpost is in the right place, or close to it, but I am afraid the clamp is not tight enough to keep it there, what with half of it about to fall off. Is there anything that can be done for this? I see some things about separate seatpost clamps. Can those be used on such a frame? Can the frame be repaired? Thanks for any help or advice.

It depends on how far you want to take it. I would personally want to get the seat tube spoothed out to accept a standard collar, but that is something that could go south quick.
If you can get that aforementioned clamp to work then go for it. The force required is a lot less than you may expect it to be.

A collar won't necessarily work depending on how the rear cluster is designed.

A separate clamp or collar won't work unless there is room on the frame to put it, which I don't think is the case here.I'm not sure that trying to have someone weld the cracked part is a viable solution, but you have nothng to loose. You could always drill the seattube below the stays and insert a bolt thru the seattube and post.

Welding the cracked part might have been viable before yesterday, when I rode to the nearest bike shop to ask if there was anything I could do, and (part of) the cracked part fell off somewhere en route. They told me to take it to the shop where I got it (on the other side of town), and ask if the frame might still be covered under warranty. I am hoping so, and will take it later today or tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.
