How do I properly align my stem with my fork?

I ordered an IRO a month ago, but am just now back from a long trip where I couldn't ride. I noticed that the stem came a little askew of the true direction of the fork, though. How do I adjust this, and make sure it's aligned properly other than eyeballing?

Thanks!

Awesome - so do I just loosen the two stem bolts and the one on the cap?

If it's a threadless system, you can usually get away with loosening just the two stem bolts. If you loosen the top cap, you will have to re-adjust the tension of the top cap on the headset. As far as aligning the stem with the fork, eyeballing the stem with the front wheel usually works. If you want to be anal about it, get a broomstick or something similar, and line it up with the top tube. the stem can then be aligned with the broomstick. Don't forget to align the front wheel too.

Why should your stem be aligned when mine never is? No matter how hard I try.

Since my eyeballing's so accurate I rarely use my laser tri-align tool.

If you have canti bosses, just straddle the frame -lean over the bars and line the bosses to the bars.
No bosses, do it with the axle bolts.

I'm partially blind in one eye..hard. I need a laser thingy.
