*** Are sprockets interchangeable or are they like Oil filters, and Fan Belts? ***

Today I got a new Bike:

I wish it had a lower speed.
Can I put a sprocket on from an old bike,
Or are the center holes and bolt patterns made different to torment riders?

Thanks,
Nevin

I'm not sure what you mean by sprocket. If you mean chainring (front gear), then no they are not compatible. You'll most likely need a whole new crankset because many cheaper cranksets have the chainrings riveted to the spider rather than bolted and therefore are permanently attached.

On lower end cranksets the chainrings are riveted or welded on and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire crankset. On better cranksets the chainrings are attached by bolts at standard locations and are individually replacable.

I can't see enough detail from your photo but I'd guess that you have the wrong kind.

it probably has a freewheel, buy another freewheel.

hire a shop to replace it for you.

What's first gear on that thing, 44/28 or so? Seems low enough..

Here's a thought: unless you're like 4'10", that seat is probably way too low.

Raise it until you can straighten a leg on the bottom pedal, and then you'll actually make some power.

Put your bars as low as they'll go, and you won't catch so much breeze, too. Also, the further you lean over, the more power your glutes have.
