Campy Index downtube shifter assembly

Good day all,

I have these shifters, http://www.tearsforgears.com/2005/11...-shifters.html But I can't seem to get the right side-rear shifter to go together.

Does anyone have advice or a good link on how to assemble this? As far as I can see I have all the needed parts.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I have not worked with one in awhile but they are tricky. you have to sort of asembe it on the shifter boss. I tried to set up a pair last summer and was just going to run the friction. It seemed to me that youneeded to really clean the boss off as in remove all the paint. I have an exploded view if you think that will help.

Thanks for the reply!

I figured you would be one to answer me. Your answer is the what I have come to realize. Will carefully remove paint with a fine file or some emery cloth.

Couple of things. First I did file the paint on the shifter boss now this fits quite well. Second, ran the cable for the front shifter, have the D ring as tight as I can. The FD will not stay on the big chain ring. The FD just springs back down to the small CR.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Mike

Does the shifter lever also spring back? The left side is nothing more than the friction shifter that Campy has been using for 50 years (abit with some newer materials). Check out this photo and make sure you have the white compression discs and spacers set up properly. If the D ring screw is bottoming out, then you are missing a spacer.
