Bottom bracket replacement

Hey everyone, i started hearing creaking when i pedal HARD (my weight on the pedal) and am pretty sure its the bottom bracket.

I own a 2010 Rocky Mountain Fusion all stock parts, therefore my BB must be: TruVativ Power Spline

My issue is that i cannot find specs online on the exact size of the BB that my bike has... Is it alright to approximate the size of the BB from the frame? I ask as i do not have the tools to take out the BB yet.

Also, i plan to get: SHIMANO LX ES51 OCTALINK BB

Cheers,

Phil.

I dont think an octalink BB will work with cranks you have if you have Truvativ BB. Truvativ has different spline configuration (12 splines vs 8 on octalink I believe). Also, you may not need a new BB. Creaking is more often an indicator that BB shell and cup threads need to be greased up. If, when you turn cranks by hand, they seem to turn smoothly, I would suggest you just grease up shell and BB cup threads (or better, use anti seize) and reinstall current BB. If problems persist, Truvativ spline BBs are pretty cheap.

Thank you very much for that reply :)

Will order a crank puller and BB tool to take mine out, anything else i should need?

What kind of grease do you recommend?

Thanks, does this mean that i must use the cartridge type "ISIS" for my bottom bracket?

•Power Spline: Power spline is TruVativ’s proprietary 12 spline bottom bracket design used on their lower end cranks.
TruVativ is the only source for these bottom brackets.

No not ISIS. Truvativ ISIS has 10 splines. If you want to keep your existing carnks, you need the 12 spline powerspline BB. As for grease, I use automotive antiseize -- I buy it at autoparts stores-- on my BB threads. But bicycle grease -- phil wood or Park or any of variety of other brands would be fine.
