Broken LH Ultegra 6700 Brifter

I broke my LH brifter this weekend. I think it's the trim stop but I'm not sure because I'm not very familiar with how these things work. Attached is a photo and circled in red is a metal part that's protruding. That part didn't protrude when the brifter was working properly. This happened when I was climbing a short, but steep, hill. I hit the bottom of the hill in the big chainring and shifted to the small ring about halfway up. I didn't notice anything until I tried to shift back to the big ring later and the lever wouldn't move at all. The braking still works fine just the shifting is jammed. I bought the bike from Competitive Cyclist in December 2010 so this should be covered under Shimano's 2 year warranty. I checked Shimano's website for warranty info and they say start with the dealer that sold the bike. I called CC tonight and the phone rep had never heard of them doing this type of warranty. He took my name and someone will call me back tomorrow. Anyone see something like this? These components have been great until now. I have about 5,700 miles on the bike.
