What rim tape do you use for high pressure tires ?

I've only recently begun experimenting with some of the HP tires
available these days, and have experienced a couple of flats due to
deformation of the rim tape/strips. The most recent happened
overnight in the garage when a 140psi Vittoria bulged the tube
through an Open Pro rim spoke hole, right through the official,
brand new, Velox cloth rim tape and hit the spoke end. I rode that
wheel 50 miles at pretty good clip the day prior, so I'm happy it waited.

Anyway, what are the rest of you people using to prevent this
from happening ??? Are you going two layers ? Is there an effective
lightweight solution for this ? I've also experienced the plastic rim
strips deforming and/or sliding to the side just enough to fail.

Thanks for advice and opinion............

140? To What pressure are you inflating, normally?
Velox not adequate?
Try a combination of glass fiber reinforced packing tape ,
and a stiff, fused loop plastic rim strip. or apply the Velox
over the top of the fiber reinforced packing tape.

You might have a look at Velo plugs. I installed these in the a couple of wheelsets. I think it's a great alternative to rim take, but they won't work on Open Pros. They are intended for single eyelet or rims with no eyelets.
