New Enduro orange seals appear not to fit on new GXP bottom brackets

I"m doing a new build on a second frame, so I purchased a new TruVativ BB and removed the bearings. I orderd my enduro kit. Replaced bearings with no problems. Now I go to install the crank with the orange enduro seals and I notice the seals are not going in. It looks like they're being pressed into the shell ( edges are catching on the shell) instead of sliding in. I"m wondering if the retaining clip that is in the shell is supposed to be removed or there is something that I'm not familiar with. On the enduro website it shows the pics but with the old BB and it shows the seals sliding right in. That's how my first rebuild went two years back, but not with these.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Do you trim the edges of the seals a bit or are they supposed to fall in the groove were the retaining clips are ( clips removed)? What gives???
TIA!
