Nexus 8 speed grinding noise in nearly all gears

Hey - I have a new 8 speed nexus that shifts flawlessly, but makes popping, grinding noises in most gears. I know the hub is at least moderately greased, because some of it was coated on the hub cones when I was adjusting the hubs earlier. I don't know whether this is a new hub break-in kind of thing, but I know my wife's 3 speed did NOT do this.

thanks,

I don't have a lot of experience with the nexus 8, but I've put in 3 of them, one on my current bike. All mine have been SG-8R36 model red band hubs. They all have been very quiet from the beginning, except for an occasional pop sound. This is also associated with some slippage. I think it is the roller clutch slipping a bit. This has only occurred early on. On my current bike, there has been no more popping with slippage. However, it now makes a more pronounced gear noise, which I think is normal. Nothing I would call a grinding noise. I probably have a couple of hundred miles on this bike. I think the roller clutch breaks in a little.

My first nexus install I didn't ride too often when it was sold. The second install was on my girlfriend's bike, she doesn't ride it too often so I can give a comparison. My current bike I've only put a couple hundred miles on. It has popped maybe once. The first bike I put a nexus on, I broke the rules and didn't put full housing all the way to the hub. This is a no-no. That bike had some shifting issued related to the improper cable install so I don't have a good point of reference. After doing a proper housing install, any issues went away.

If you are really getting a grinding noise, and it isn't a gear meshing noise, I'd say there is some problem.
