Hello, I have a Canyon Ultimate CF carbon frame that has a steering tube intended for 1 1/4" forks, completely not standard. But the problem is that the lower headset sealed ball bearing doesn't spin totally free and it's noisy, so I'm trying to remove it but I can't. The headset is an Across Ai-71, again totally different of the normal headsets, it hasn't cups for example, so I'm afraid that the bearing it's at the same time a kind of cup, but I don't know how it's welded to the frame, if it's some kind of thread or just pressed. Would you know if there is any tool to do it? Many thanks.
End on, I cannot tell if its an integrated headset or external,
if external bang out the whole thing,
with the "Rocket" shop tool tool.
replace the whole thing, they are sold that way..
integrated they are set into the frame directly.
then you are pushing it out by the inner race,
the bearing comes out as a whole..
Welded, Nah, frame is painted first.. loc tite .. interference fit, perhaps.
if the new replacement bearing is not a reasonably tight press in ,
ie some resistance,
then you need Loc Tite too. there is a particular one for fitting
cartridge bearings, not same as threadlock product.
[though the cane creek integrated headset in my Koga Miyata
is a loose stack of parts, 'slip fit'.. falls out with the fork let loose]
