question on cassette size?

Can u replace a six speed freewheel and rim with a brand new rim with an eight speed cassette? Will it fit in the frame?

The assembly of spokes, hub and rim is called a wheel. Yes it can be done but the frame has to be spread. There is a lot to consider - primarily the cost, because you have not mentioned derailleur, chain or shifters. Most bikes would not be worth the upgrade.

For more on hub/cassette spacing just Google ...hub cassette spacing - the sheldonbrown links should be your first stop. Believe it or not doing a search first, even if you don't know the right terms, will yield quicker, more accurate information than waiting for a dozen or two dozen posts. Then you can use the forum for details or specific recommendations.
