help fixing shimano freewheel
Hi,
I have a shimano MF TZ-21 and took the bearing cover off and now trying to get it back together. So it has a million tiny bearings stacked in 2 rows. I *think* I found them all and put them back in. But when I put the locking ring back on, I can't get it tight without the cassette no longer spinning. It spins if the locking ring is loose, but the moment I tighten it, it stops spinning. (it actually self tightens when it spins free)
Did I maybe miss a bearing somewhere? Anyone know how to put this back on? I don't think there was a washer/space between the bearing originally, but was there? Seems odd to have two rows of bearings touching each other in the channel like that.
any ideas on how to get this working again?
Thanks!

there should be 3 thin spacer inside the freewheel , (( sometime one is remove so there not so much play (wobble ) to the freewheel .)).there should be about 80 bearings (40 per row .)there should be a gap of 1 or 2 bearing missing in each row. the cone which you remove goes on counter clockwise . you should use a thin grease on the bearings when putting it back together . if you are missing the spacers you might get some at your LBS ,if they have any old freewheels around .make sure there no bearings out of place or that any row is crowed with them . most people here would just said throw it away and replace it . I hope i been of help with this .

You gonna eat that?
Just buy a replacement. They're not that expensive.

you took it apart? Solvent flushing, blowing down, and re oiling
was what you should have stopped at doing.
+1, just go get another freewheel..
Now you know what they look like inside..

How decent are those 7s Tourney freewheels? The other day I was horrified to note more that 0.75% chain stretch on my early 90s MTB which has a lovely Sachs freewheel on my homebuilt wheels. I fear that I may need to replace the freewheel (I've looked a bit for cogs), and in my early searches, that Tourney seems about the only 7s SIS-compatible freewheel available with a 28-30t big cog...
