Squeaking and lubing and squeaking and lubing and...

I got as a present a department-store MTB - a Lombardo Yakhchal 300. It's a dual-suspension model, but at least it wasn't chosen from the really pathetic junk (I've seen dual-suspension MTBs on sale for €60); the person who bought it said it was one of the "fancier" ones in the store, which I read as "it cost somewhere between €200 and €300". I've been using it fairly regularly (gift horses and mouths and all that), and after some tinkering and tweaking and replacing the tires and dreadful stock disc brakes it works well enough for riding around my mom's town. That said, there is one thing that bugs me: the rear suspension has a tendency to develop a very irritating squeaking noise. I tried the usual lubricants on all the bolts and washers, but nothing worked; then I got an inspiration, and I tried using foaming grease I bought for my motorcycle's chain. That finally managed to silence it - I guess the foaming action allows the grease to penetrate much deeper. Months later it resumed squeaking, and another spray of foaming grease shut it up again. Been silent ever since.

Now, my question is: should I take it apart anyway, or is the occasional spray of motorcycle grease sufficient to keep it working well? Or to put it in other words: am I somehow damaging it or degrading it by only spraying it from the outside without fixing the problem at the source?

It only means you'll get a buildup of gunk from the excess lube.

No biggie. It tends to protect finishes on stuff, even. Wipe as much as you can get off before lubing, though.

If it lasts months, I would say use it sparingly, and dont worry about it.
