    Shimano Ultegra ST-6600G brake/gear shifter

The throw on the brake shifter is too long for my hands. There is at least a 1/2" inch of pull before the break even begins to engage. I read that the 6700 has a 10 mm insert to shorten the throw, but I suspect I would need to custom fit something my self to insert into the shifter space to bring the lever closer to my small hand.

May sound like it is not worth the effort, but especially my right hand has a hard time engaging the the break lever because of the long through.

Any ideas? I am headed later to Home Depot, and could try to find some rubber gasket i could cut or shape or whatever you can think of.

I don't get this. Are you sure you don't need to simply shorten the cable at the brake?

BTW- free spelling/grammar lesson. Stop simply typing words using spell check.

A Break is what happens when you drop a glass, a brake is what you use to stop a bike.

Through is what you go in a tunnel, Throw is the range of travel in a lever

Can I shorten the THROW on the BRAKE lever by shortening the brake cable? Linguistics aside, how can reduce the the throw on the lever so it is easier for me to squeeze the brake with a right hand that is an inch or two shorter than the left from birth.

I think that what the OP is trying to get across is that the lever is too far from the bar while it is in its resting position. Many mountain bike type levers have a screw to adjust this position.

Specialized used to make something called "Slim Shims" to solve this problem, ask your local Spec' dealer if they still have some, or search the web - it appears that Evans has them in stock still.

But I agree with what was mentioned above - if it is not hand reach that is the problem, and is instead brake tightness caused by pad wear that is the problem, then it may be just a simple barrel adjustment that is needed to fix your problem.

there are rubber wedges included with new Trek road bikes, [that I have assembled]
you stuff them in and the lever does not open so far..
