1993 Specialized Allez Comp Cromo broken
Ok, so I'm a total n00b (first post here). I have a dilema. I've been riding a 1993 Specialized Allez Comp Cromo with Shimano 105's and a decent set of Mavic wheels. It recently split at the rear chainstay. I'm not the original owner, and I don't know the original owner, so I can't have them file warranty claim. I absolutely loved this bike. When I bought it about 6 years ago, I immediately sold my 2001 Fuji Ace. Here are the basic specs, but the wheels have been replaced with another set of Mavics from about 2001 (I think):

I'm cheap, and don't really want to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on a new bike. I'm wondering if it is worth it at all to try and get it re-welded (I'm not a welder), or if I should explore other options?
If welding isn't a smart option, then my first hunch was to look for some decent framesets on ebay or craigslist (or wherever recommended really), harvest my Allez, and build from there. The Allez has downtube shifters, so I would likely (definitely) need a new set of shifters/brakes. What would the Shimano 105 derailers from that time (8 spd rear, 2 speed front) be compatible with now? Are there any other compatibility issues I haven't thought of?
I found a Jamis Ventura Sport for $150 on craigslist. The only issue I see with it is it needs new derailleurs. I assume I could put my 105's on there? IDK, I don't know much about bike maintenance.
I hope I posted this in the right forum. Thanks for any advice or help you can give.

As it's steel, it's weldable, have you investigated frame repair in your local area? You would need to budget for a re-paint after the repair, if you like the bike this would seem like a viable option, if looking to replace with a different frame, there will be issues of parts fit, even the front derailleur may need a different band size to what the Allez has.

I haven't looked to find any places that would do frame repair yet. I may do that this afternoon.
I actually own an industrial coating (spray paint) company, so the painting won't be much of an issue.
Thanks for the advice on the components. I had a feeling it seemed a little too easy.
