o gosh another dented aluminum thread.... =(

sob story. bike dropped #facepalm. looked over bike and found this little 'gem'.

am i now out of a frame?
if i ride this, will it implode beneath my legs?
i know it's impossible to fix. So i either keep on trucking, or crash replace this thing.

dont have my calipers out, but probably 2-3mm in diameter, feels maybe 1mm-2mm deep?

If you are not going to ride that frame I will buy it from you for $100 shipped. Go out and ride...don't be so neurotic, get that thing dirty and you will hardly notice it.

Oh dear, there must be somebody out there somewhere scaring people with horror stories about aluminium... possibly somebody with a vested interest in selling frames.

Ride the damn thing!

I read this thread at work and could not access the photos. Now that I see it I find it absolutely adorable that the OP is worried about it. It is such comically small imperfection that I wouldn't be surprised to find multiple similar features on my bike... if I were to ever look closely enough to find it

Because of the manufacturing process for CF, I would guess most frames already have bumps and dents that big from the factory, if you look closely enough... which you shouldn't.

I should take a picture of the big old dent in the front of the steering tube on my 1975 road bike... the dent has been there since the early 80s, came from catching a steel cable that was across the bottom of a fireroad (yes, I was mountain biking on my tubulars, hah hah), I didn't see the cable until I was too close to stop, and it bounced off the front wheel onto the steering tube, where it snagged the rivetted on badge, I did a endo over the bars and it left a dent in the frame, and bent the front side pull brake. campy brake was replaced, dent in frame remained.

of course, reynolds 531 brazed lugged steel frames had just a bit more structural integrity than a-lu-mini-um.

This thread was born stunted This "dent" is nowhere near deep enough to warrant a discussion. Even the most paranoid person in the world will just yawn at that aesthetic blemish.

I am disappoint

Also, the "dent" is on the toptube - and that is by far the least critical tubing on a bike. Bah!!!

I just finished filling a dent on the underside of the down tube on my Trek with bondo before I paint it. It was deep enough to need 4 coats of filler. And its had 10K hard miles since it acquired this distinction.

OP, you're suffering from new car syndrome. Your brand new ride's got its first boo-boo. Have a good cry and ride on. Bikes aren't any fun sitting in the garage.

I've purposely hammered bigger dents than that into (steel) frames for crank arm and chainring clearance

Steel is Real!

I do miss the ride of a good double butted cro-mo frame with deep curved forks, and long thin stays.

I think the OP is playing with us. Showing off his tiny dent to rub in the fact that most of the rest of us have bikes a lot more banged up
