Bottom bracket confusion

Hello

I'm building up a 2004 Cinelli Unica frame, so of course an Italian BB should work (70mm wide shell). I have a Shimano BB-6500 marked "70", but the cups are too small in diameter to engage the threads. The frame is threaded the same direction on both sides, confirming the Italian thread. From the research I've done, this BB should fit! Are there multiple diameters of Italian BB's that I'm not aware of? Thanks for your help.

There is only one italian threading. It it's italian it should be marked 36x24 on the drive side, and 1.37x24 if english. English thread cups will drop right into a Italian threaded shell. If the BB is not brand new someone could have switched the cups, even tho the cartridge has the 70 on the body of it.
