Ultegra 10sp Triple shifter with 105 double crankset

Hi,

I was just wondering whether a 10speed triple shifter would work with a 105 double crankset and an older ultegra 6500 front derailleur. Thanks.

cranksets for 10 speed have closer together chainrings, so it matters more if the shifter and the crankset are from the same speed count, rather if they are double or triple. also a FD from the 8 speed or 9 speed generation will have a bigger cage meant for the fatter chain, so the smaller moves of a 10 speed shift system might not be quite enough even if the crankset matches the speed-ness

you can use a triple shifter with a double crankset as long as the speed count is compatible by setting it up so the '1st gear' position on the shifter is slack, 2nd is your small ring, and 3rd is your big ring.

so.... maybe you could get it to work, maybe not. front speed doubles are about as simple as shifting gets.
