another question about v-brakes

When replacing the v-brakes do I need to replace the steel/alumnium part at the end of the cable (like a 90degrees). The part who pull the brake.

I'm upgrading from promax vees to avid sd SL

Thanks

Nick

You don't HAVE to I just usually do it so as to have fresh components. Plus new brakes always come with them anyhow

Ok, is there a technique to change this particular part without any needs to change all the cable.

I bought my v's on eBay. They are OEM so I'm not sure if I'll have the little "clamp" to put at the end of the cable.

The crimp on cap is like 2 cents at a lbs if they decide to charge you at all. Otherwise shrink tubing will work or countless other methods. There is no other way of replacing that part with out removing the end treatment

That's a major league upgrade! You are going to be pleased with how much easier the Avids are to work with and with how much better the Avids work. When guys start upgrading bikes they usually think about the drivetrain first, but I can't imagine a drivetrain upgrade that would rival the improvement that you are going to get with your brakes.

I still have my 150 watt soldering gun, so I always solder the ends of cables. I use rosin core electrical solder as it is much less corrosive than acid core or separate flux.

I just do not like the appearnce of the crimp ons.

Got old mtb tires? Make ice tires with sheet metal screws.
Nasty, and line the tire with something.
I'd do it, but I'm on Van Isl, Canada.
No snow.
