Cateye Astrale 8
I have snapped the little lever that on the cradle that holds/releases my Cateye Astrale 8. The computer will still sort of snap onto the cradle but is not very tight and is far too easy to pop off by accident. Is there a way to replace the cradle without redoing all of the wiring? I took the cradle off of the handlebars to take a look, but it appears that the leads are held in place by some sort of clear resin, not screws like i was hoping. I suppose i should also ask if anybody knows if just the cradle can be found for sale.
The only other thing i can think of is splicing the wires to a new cradle. For me at least, this would be much easier that re-wiring the whole bike, but i'd rather not have to do any splicing either.
I'm also open to suggestions on how to repair the lever part so that it will function as it's supposed to. That would actually probably be the best thing. I don't mind it looking ragged, so long as i don't lose it while cruising up CPW...

I'm surprised that you think you could splice two pairs of wires and, I assume shrink wrap them, in less time than it would take to rerun the wires. I'm pretty sure it that would go the other way for me.

If you were an electrician I GUARANTEE you can wire a computer on your bike. It took me about 15 minutes for the first one (Astrale 8) and about 7 minutes for the second one. I'm no electrician but I'm not stupid and I can read directions.
Cateye sells the harness kit...I think it's about $17.
Nashbar sells the entire cpu for $26 if I remember right.

Allright, after actually looking at the wiring and routing, yeah, should be a piece of cake. of course a whole new computer is only a few bucks more than the harness kit, figures.
Thanks for the help in seeing the folly of my 'scared to do something i've never done so i'll make it infinitely more complicated because i know how to do that' ways.

the certain part couldnot be bought as a replacement from Cateye? That's the most assured way to take care of the problem. I actually had an Astrale on My road bike; at a later time the display went out (not the fault of the dead battery.) So I just had the bike shop replace it with an upgraded Cateye.
